Kunzite Healing Properties
Kunzite imparts the importance of embracing joy and celebrating life. It is felt to release emotional blockages, past traumas, and negative emotions, allowing for a more balanced and harmonious state of mind.
It works on the heart chakra, gently opening and activating it. It encourages unconditional love, compassion, and forgiveness, both towards oneself and others. Kunzite helps in nurturing healthy relationships and enhancing emotional connections.
Furthermore, it may promote self-expression, creativity, and self-confidence, supporting individuals in speaking their truth with compassion and assertiveness. Also, it is thought to assist us in overcoming self-doubt and encourages us to embrace our unique qualities and gifts.
This gemstone may aid in letting go of resistance towards life and overcoming the fear of loneliness and scarcity. Additionally, it’s thought to help foster optimism and trust, inspiring us to fully embrace and experience the myriad aspects of life.
Lastly, Kunzite is believed to have several physical healing properties. It is said to help alleviate migraines, reduce stress-related ailments, and promote overall vitality and well-being. Additionally, as a heart chakra stone, it may aid in relieving symptoms of heart-related issues and support the cardiovascular system.
Kunzite History and Uses
Kunzite derives its name from George Frederick Kunz, a renowned gemologist who first identified and named the stone in 1902. However, Kunzite had been discovered earlier, in 1877, in the Pala region of California, USA, by Tiffany & Co. gemologist Charles B. Huntington.
Historically, Kunzite was mainly used for ornamental purposes. Its exquisite colour and transparency made it a sought-after gemstone for jewellery, especially during the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. It gained popularity as a gemstone for engagement rings and was often set in platinum or white gold to accentuate its pastel hues. Kunzite’s popularity waned during the mid-20th century but experienced a revival in the 1990s due to its unique beauty and metaphysical properties.
Kunzite Geological Description
The gemstone belongs to the spodumene mineral family and is prized for its delicate pink-to-lilac colour, which is attributed to the presence of manganese.
It’s important to note that the geological formation of Kunzite occurs over long periods of time, often millions of years. The specific geological conditions required for the formation of Kunzite are relatively rare, which contributes to its relative scarcity and value as a gemstone.
It is a relatively hard gemstone, with a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, however, due to its cleaved formation, it is quite vulnerable to scratching and damage. As a result, it requires careful handling and protection to maintain its beauty and integrity over time. Also, if left in the sun, over time the colour can slowly fade.
It is found in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Brazil, Madagascar, California and Maine in the USA.
