Veracruz Amethyst Specimen

This Veracruz Amethyst Specimen is a rare and highly prized variety of Amethyst, known for its exceptional clarity and light-to-deep purple hues.

Exclusively found in the Las Vigas mine in Veracruz, Mexico, this stunning piece features minimal matrix, allowing the crystal’s natural beauty to shine. Veracruz Amethyst forms in delicate, elongated points within volcanic geodes, making it distinct from other Amethyst varieties.

Due to the limited production from the Las Vigas mine, these specimens are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.

The clarity, vibrant colour, and scarcity of high-quality Veracruz Amethyst make it a valuable addition to any crystal collection. A perfect piece for display, its sharp points and depth of colour highlight the rare beauty of this variety.

History and Uses

Amethyst derives its name from ametusthos, meaning not intoxicated and relates to an ancient Greek legend. Dionysus, the god of celebration and revelry, declared he would have revenge on mortals for not drinking his wine. He decided to have the beautiful maiden named Amethyst eaten by his tigers while she was on her way to worship at the temple of Artemis, the virgin huntress. So, she called to Artemis for protection and the goddess turned her into a pure white quartz statue to save her from the tigers. When Dionysus saw how beautiful she was he was filled with remorse for his ruthlessness. He began to weep into his cup of wine which then spilled over the quartz statue turning it a beautiful shade of purple.

Amethyst can range in colour from lilac pink, to purple red to deep purple. In ancient times the Romans inlaid their cups with it, believing it would protect them from drunkenness. Similarly, Catholic bishops wore Amethyst rings to prevent mystical intoxication. Likewise, kissing the ring was thought to keep people focused on spiritual thoughts. It was used for protection from black magic and treachery and to ensure victory in war and in hunting.

Jewellery Care & 1 Year Warranty

In jewellery form, some crystals are more hardy than others. For everyday wearers, we recommend crystals that fall in the Quartz family or have a Moh's hardness level of over 5.5-6. Avoid excessive water exposure, especially in pools or the ocean and any harsh chemicals. Delicate crystals like Amber, Moonstone, Opal, and iron-based meteorites need gentle handling due to potential discolouration or structural risks. Store safely, and clean with care. Rest assured that our 1-year jewellery warranty covers any manufacturing defects. With proper care, we expect your pieces to last many years to come. In our 18 years of business, we still wear some treasures from our original collection! Learn more about our warranty and care guide here.
